Ex-professional vessels
Ex-vessels are defined as cargo ships that are out of service or old fishing vessels. Some of these vessels have been rebuilt so that one can comfortably make long voyages. They are also sometimes referred to as recreational vessels or sailing houseboats. Some of these vessels are rigged as sailing vessels.
A large number are encountered as sailing charter ships in the so-called "Brown Fleet."
The most common ship types:
- Luxury motor vessel, better known as luxury motor.
- Tjalk.
- Clipper.
- Hagenaar.
- Westlander.
- Spits.

In an appraisal, the focus is on the value of the object where the technical condition is assessed visually. In a technical inspection, the technical condition of the vessel is assessed. This includes the condition of the vessel itself and all the technical installations on board.
