Engine survey
The entire propulsion system can be comprehensively scrutinized. Thus, this covers everything related to propulsion, such as electrical wiring, gauges and instruments, engine controls, the entire exhaust system, fuel tanks, etc.
During the engine survey, a number of measurements and observations are made under full load (sailing) or at three-quarters power (off shore) with proprietary instruments and monitors.
Sometimes it may be necessary to take a lube oil sample in order to obtain additional information about the condition and wear process of the engine. It is then necessary to know a number of data such as the brand and type of lubricating oil, the number of hours the engine has run with this oil, the conditions under which the engine has run (load, too cold, too hot, etc.).
A lube oil sample with no history can lead one completely astray. The seller may just change the lube oil of his totally worn-out engine just before the survey. In this case, the results of the lube oil sample will be extremely positive.
